The diagnostic tests for coronavirus and the monitoring of vulnerable population groups in Britain will be stepped up ahead of winter, the UK Health Protection Agency (UKHSA) has announced.
The decision is believed to have been made because of her appearance of new variant BA.2.86. in a period of declining immunity.
The variant is closely monitored due to the many mutations that characterize it. THE professor at John Edmunds School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine he said the appearance of the variant in the UK, US and Denmark in a short period of time raises a concern about its ability to spread. Also of concern are its large genetic differences from other Omicron subvariants.
The aim of the increased controls is to prevent pressure on the public health system NHS the winter.
Professor Stephen Reilly from the UKHSA said: “Protecting the public from Covid-19 remains one of our top priorities. We continue to monitor the threat posed by Covid-19 through our range of surveillance systems and genetic analysis capabilities to report on infection cases, hospitalizations and risks posed by new variants.”
