Bougaidis: “I earned 800 euros until I was 19 on Mars – I also had to work in a factory”

Mavroudis Bougaidis shocked in an interview he gave to the radio station of Thessaloniki, Metropolis.

The 30-year-old central defender, who has been playing in Poland since January 2021 with Xroby Glogov, referred to the period in which he wore the shirt of Aris, revealing details regarding his salary but, while shuddering to say that he was forced to work in a factory in order to cope financially.

His interview in detail:

“This discussion is huge. I have also been in academies, but I do not know where the money for the academies comes from, because I have never been in management but the “meat” because that is what we footballers are a product of.

The talk about the academies makes me very sad, because I see what is happening abroad where I have competed. When a footballer comes out of the academies, they think we won’t give him any advance contract, he’s our child, the basic salary is enough. Are foreign players who come on base salary paid?

Until I was 19, I received 800 euros from Aris. All the small footballers received a basic salary, being also key players in top teams. I never got a big contract, but when they showed me respect I gave it my all.”

I worked for a year in a factory because no team in Greece made an offer for me and anyone who wanted me gave me the starting job, so I preferred the factory”.
