Andros Sailing Race: The next event will “unite” the Aegean

The 56th Andros International Sailing Race “Ioannis V. Goulandris” was concluded at the Nautical Club of Greece with the awarding of the trophies. The organizers, the Nautical Club of Andros and the Nautical Club of Greece, talked about the next event which aims to “unite”, from a sailing point of view, the Aegean as it is planned to have a start from Chios to Andros.

The 56th event, in terms of weather conditions, was particularly difficult but the members of the 17 crews proved their seamanship, certified their knowledge and lived moments full of adrenaline in the sea area of ​​the “captain of the Cyclades”. “The challenge for every sailor or sailor is how to tame the sea and survive a difficult course. The more difficult the race is, the more we love it,” said the president of the Hellenic Naval Club, Giorgos Prokopiou, during the awards ceremony.

In this year’s event, the “seed” was planted so that next year something impressive will happen in terms of sailing data, and this is none other than the two different starts, something that will happen for the first time in a sailing race in the Eastern Mediterranean. “It is a great joy for all of us that this year’s race ended in the best way. Together with N.O.E. we are already working so that next year we can unite Chios with Andros. The distance from Vouliagmeni to Andros is 72 nautical miles as is the distance from Chios to Andros. It will be very nice to unite the two sides of the Aegean”, emphasized the president of the Andros Maritime Club, Phaidon Tamvakakis.

The Minister of Shipping and Insular Policy, Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, also attended the Awards Ceremony. “Greece’s relationship with the sea is recorded in our DNA. The struggle of Andros is a struggle that requires you to have allies in knowledge, self-confidence, confidence and strength”, emphasized Mr. Varvitsiotis.

During the event, the sailors had the opportunity to talk about the race, analyze the moments they spent at sea with winds exceeding 25 mph and renew their appointment for the 57th Andros International Sailing Race “Ioannis V. Goulandris” ». For two of the three races of this year’s event, there was live streaming by the Hellenic Sailing Federation, something that happened for the first time in an open sea race in Greece.
