Francisco Manuel Velez Jimenez, as his full name is, was born on June 23, 1991 in Tarragona, Spain.
The Spanish central defender started his football career in the academies of Gimnastic de Tarragona, reaching the first team in 2010.
After two consecutive loan spells at Pobla de Mafumet and Logrones, Almeria made him theirs in September 2013.
With the shirt of Almeria he was introduced to the Spanish public at first division level and in four seasons he recorded 78 appearances (2 goals, 1 assist), in LaLiga, LaLiga2 and the Spanish Cup.
In July 2017, Velez made his first appearance outside the Iberian Peninsula, wearing the shirt of Wisla Krakow.
He made seventeen appearances (1 goal) in the first division of Poland, while in the summer of 2018 he started his first term in our team.
Fran Velez had two “full” seasons at Kleanthis Vikelidis (57 appearances, 5 goals, 2 assists) in the league, Cup and Europe.
In July 2020 he was released and signed for Panathinaikos whose shirt he wore for two seasons (60 appearances, 2 goals, 2 assists).
Last season he played in Saudi Arabia for Al-Fateh (23 appearances, 1 assist).
“My return to ARIS was something I wanted”
After signing his contract, Fran Velez told arisfc.com.gr:
“I am happy to return to ARIS after three years. It was something I wanted after I made the decision to leave Saudi Arabia. I got in touch with the club and since ARIS wanted me too, the rest was easy.
I know some fans are bitter with me for the way I left three years ago.
I want to say this: It was a bad, a wrong, decision I made then. A bad moment, which cannot, however, cancel what I experienced here, nor how I felt and still feel.
I think these things sometimes happen to even the best families, but they are still families.
The years I spent at ARIS, the atmosphere in the team and the love of the people are things that I have always carried with me and I am honestly glad to be back to experience them again.
So I’m back and all I want is to get back into Charilaou and play ball to help ARIS achieve its goals. And I’ll give anything for it.”
