At its unveiling, his team Joan Platha prevailed 82-76 of Cluj from Romania, in the game that opened the curtain of the 4th tournament “Nikos Fassouras” where it is held at “Andreas Papandreou” and Peristeri bwin and Panathinaikos are also participating.

Respecting the proportions, the absences, but also the season, “Union” played intermittently very beautiful basketballbringing to the floor the philosophy, but also many of the elements of pressure and fast basketball that the Spanish coach wants to see.

The first scorer for the “yellow and black” was Jordan McRae with 18 points, with Justin Tillman (15 p.), Chason Randle (14p.) to follow in performance, as of course also o Campegele (11p., 6p.) who had crucial points in the final. He was obviously out of rhythm Ben McLemore, finishing the match with 2 points (1/8 from the field) and 4 rebounds. For Cluj, Jones and Guzman had 25 and 21 points respectively.

The match:

THE AEK started with Karabela, McLemore, Netzipoglou, Kouseloglou and Tillman in its starting five. “Union” found them… in the first four minutes of the match, missing several shots, which was taken advantage of by Cluj with a quick 7-0 by Kuzman. The entry of McRae and Campegele gave an offensive breath to the team, which increased its intensity and pressure on both sides of the floor. Holding Cluj without a point in the last three minutes (all 12 of their points were scored by Kuzman), the “yellow and black” ran the court and with 9-0 run closed the quarter at 16-12.

With a three-pointer from Karabela, the second period started for AEK, with McRae and Tilman increasing the difference for the first time at +11 for 25-14 at 13′! The entirety of it Joan Platha continued to find points through their good and pressing defence, keeping a good lead close to ten points until 17′. However, due to the conditions and the season, AEK had a bad three minutes at the end of the half, resulting in them going in the locker room behind with 39-38 with Kuzman and Jones having 16 and 15 points respectively for Cluj!

The match turned into a derby in the third quarter, where the lead kept changing hands, with neither team able to escape the score. With Jason Randle hitting two consecutive 3-pointers, AEK went ahead 50-47 at 25′. Clouse answered with the same “coin” for 50-53, before McRae’s 5th three-pointer of the “Union” of the match made it 53-53 in the 28th minute, with the period ending at -2 for the Greek team (57-59).

AEK-Cluj

The energy and spirit that AEK brought out for most of the match understandably tired the team’s players, who struggled early in the fourth and final period, both defensively and offensively. With two goal-fouls by Meijeri and a three-pointer by Jones, Cluj went for the first time at +8 (61-69) at 34′.
