It will now be conducted in a different way Basketball League!

As announced by YOU WEREthe top division of Greek basketball will now be different formatwhich will add more interest, with more “big” matches but also more suspense in the lower half of the standings.

After his weakness Triton to capitalize on the promotion ticket won at the stadium, the league will be out of serious prospect with twelve teams, last year’s eleven with the addition of Amarousiou instead of the Ionian.

So, after the very few 22 games of the regular season are over, the teams will be divided into two groups of six, from 1 to 6 and from 7 to 12. The teams will then play five additional games, with the top three of each group (i.e. 1, 2, 3 and 7, 8, 9) to play three games at home and the bottom three of each group (4, 5, 6 and 10, 11, 12) two matches at home and three away. So the number of games in the regular season practically rises to 27.

The final ranking of the regular season will be determined from these results, with twelfth to demote him as well seventh to eighth to earn a place in playoffs.

ESAKE’s announcement in detail:

“In order for the Basket League of the new competition year to offer an even more beautiful spectacle and more emotions to the fans, to be more competitive and to include more interesting matches, ESAKE proceeded to change the format of the Championship.

Following the completion of the 22-game Basket League 2023-24 regular season, the 12 teams will be divided into two groups for a new phase of the Championship before the start of the Playoffs.

The Top 6 will be the first six teams of the regular season and the Play Out group will be the last six. In both groups the teams play each other in a round of 5 matches.

In the Play Out group, the bottom-finishing team is relegated, while the top two teams qualify for the Play Offs as the 7th and 8th teams, even if after the completion of the new Championship phase they have a better record than the bottom two or more teams of the Top 6.

The teams that will finish higher in the regular season will have home advantage in the new phase of the Basket League as shown in the table and in particular in the analysis of the Top 6 and Play Out matches:

After the Top 6 and Play Outs are completed, the teams from positions 1 to 8 take part in the Playoffs. In the 1st and 2nd Phase of the Playoffs the matches are best of 3 (judged on the two wins) and in the 3rd and Final Phase the 3rd place will be decided in one match and the Finals will be best of 5″
