A historic game will be played on November 17 by the Greek National Team, which will host New Zealand at the OPAP Arena, four days before the tough and crucial game against France in New Philadelphia.
As the Federation informs, the “blue and white” will play for the first time with the New Zealanders, while the last time they faced a country from Oceania was 43 years ago, when they welcomed Australia to the Avenue.
The EPO’s update on the upcoming friendly of the National Team
The first match in their history will be played by the National Teams of Greece and New Zealand on Friday, November 17 at 19:00 at the OPAP Arena. This match, which will be a friendly match, is part of the preparation of the Greek National Team for its last match in the European Qualifiers against France on November 21 at the OPAP Arena.
The national team will face a team from Oceania after 43 years (11/11/1980, Greece-Australia 3-3, “Apostolos Nikolaidis”), as Australia no longer belongs to this confederation and since 2006 has been playing in the Asian zone.
Greece and Australia have met a total of 11 times, all in friendly games, both counting 4 wins, with 3 games ending in draws.
The last meeting between the two teams was on June 7, 2016 at the Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, where the National Team won 2-1 thanks to the goals of Mitroglou in the 8th minute and Maniatis in the 20th with a shot from behind the center of the field. Sansbury reduced in the 58th minute for Australia. Three days earlier Australia beat the National Team 1-0 in Sydney with a 90th minute strike from Leckie.
