Prekas: “The difficult games in our group will help us”

At his pace Eurobasket 2025 the Women’s National Team has started to move after the draw of the qualifiers, as the countdown to the big event that Greece will host has actually started.

Speaking about EuroBasket 2025, the federal coach Petros Prekas spoke of a great opportunity for Women’s basketball as a whole: “First of all, I would like to thank the EEC administration for the unique opportunity that gives us to play a Eurobasket in our country. This, apart from the competitive success, is a starting point for women’s basketball to get a big boost for the future. It’s an opportunity, with almost two years left, to be able to get girls on the court and involved in women’s basketball».

Greece as the organizer has secured its place at the big event in 2025, as have the co-organizers the Czech Republic, Italy and Germany. The four countries will compete in the same qualifying group. And the anxiety of qualifying may not exist, but the motivation is great according to Prekas: “In the qualifiers, indeed, we will not have the stress of qualifying, but the games we will play are of great importance. Firstly, because the higher position in the group gives a better draw for EuroBasket and secondly it is a very important stage of preparation for us, in view of the 2025 tournament. at the 2025 Eurobasket, our team should present itself as best as possible».

Regarding the teams that the Women’s National Team will face in the qualifiers, he pointed out:Our opponents in the group, namely Germany, Czech Republic and Italy are strong teams who were in the final ten in the last Eurobasket. Competitively the games will be very difficult, but this will help us for the future».
