Bruno Fernandes: “We have the players to respond and overcome the difficulties”

The belief that the Manchester United has the quality in its roster to meet the high expectations and overcome the difficulties, the captain of the English team expressed in his statements after the defeat by Bayern Munich, Bruno Fernandes.

The Portuguese midfielder spoke of the fight he and his team-mates showed against one of the best teams in the world, while stressing that every player in the squad needs to look at themselves first so that team improvement can come.

“The positive thing was that we had a fighting spirit and tried hard. It may not have been enough to get the win, or even the draw, but we showed the right mentality at times. However, we need to do that more often and throughout the 90 minutes.”.

On the absences with which United lined up against Bayern: “Obviously, we want to have all the players available. The more options available to the coach, the better. But even with the absences, we have players with experience and enough talent to cope. We know it is difficult, but I believe we have the players to respond. Everyone needs to do their job and look after themselves first. That’s what I do, both as a footballer and as a person.”

“I think nobody expected us to score three times at the home of Bayern. In the end it wasn’t enough, but we were playing against one of the best teams in the world, with fantastic players and tremendous quality. Obviously it wasn’t the best result for us, but we’ll get over it and improve.”.

For Onan: “Onana is a great goalkeeper. He has given us points with his interventions. He doesn’t need to take the blame. The whole team must take responsibility, as a whole. We will overcome difficulties together because we are strong as a team”.
