UEFA rating: The 22-year record that Greece and… scary Turkey are chasing

Not even the most optimistic Greek sports fan expected such a start from our four representatives in the Europa & Conference League, with Panathinaikos, AEK and PAOK to get great victories, while o Olympic lost on… points to Freiburg.

The aforementioned results they brought 1,200 points to our country’s bag for the UEFA ratingas a result of which Greece is catapulted in relation to its pursuers and closes the gap from 15th place, which is the biggest target.

Of course, things are not easy at all, even if the difference has fallen from 3,500 points to 2,550 after the results of Thursday (21/09), while Greece is the only country after 8th Belgium to have four teams in the groups.

To finish in the top 15 and have five representatives in Europe again from the 2024/25 season, Greece will have to overcome four countries, with Ukraine, Israel, Czech Republic, Norway, Denmark and Serbia to be above us, having between two and three groups each.

In fact, all of them with the exception of Serbs and Ukrainians, have started with four teams in Europe, which means that they get more points in wins and draws compared to our country (500 vs. 400 and 250 vs. 200 respectively).

Without going into detail about what each team is doing and getting tired – after all, it is too early to start such a conversation – the goal of the Greek clubs is clearly to find themselves in the knockouts, bringing a minimum of eight more guaranteed matches, after the 24 groups.

Something that could allow us to reach or even surpass her unimaginable performance season 2001/02when the Greek teams they had accumulated 11,250 points!

At the top and by a huge margin is… scary Turkeywhich he has collected so far 7,250 points with Galatasaray, Fenerbahce and Besiktas to continue!

In 2nd place with… just 4,800 is the Belgium (Ghent, Antwerp, Club Brugge, Genk, Union St. Gilois), with Netherlands to close the trio with 4,400 and Eindhoven, Ajax, Feyenoord and Alkmaar.

The 4th are also impressive Polesof 4,375 points (Rakov, Legia Warsaw), as well as Daneswhich, with Copenhagen and Norgeland continuing in the groups, have collected 4,250 – one… penny more than Greece.
