Huang on the departure of Olympiacos: “A decision that was not taken without reason”

“I can’t go into details yet, but it certainly wasn’t a decision taken without reason. It wasn’t an easy decision, but I still don’t regret my choice”…

In this way, Inbom Huang he mentions in his blog about what happened in the summer and what finally pushed him to ask to leave Olympiacos. The Korean emphasizes that he had an offer from a major European league team and finally concludes on how he ended up at Red Star.

Inbom Huang reports on his blog:

About what happened in the summer:

“During the preparation I left Greece and returned home. I can’t go into details yet, but it was definitely not a decision that was made without reason. It was not an easy decision, but I still do not regret my choice. I would like to say that I am sorry and thank the fans who were worried about my future.I wonder if I will be able to tell this story with a smile when I retire.

Since I wasn’t coming home for holidays, I couldn’t rest even a day. Not knowing when and where I would move, I tried to live in the European time zone as much as possible. I couldn’t neglect exercise either. I worked out non-stop in my home gym, indoor track near my house and running along the river bank.

I felt that individual exercise alone was not enough. In some places in Europe, the leagues had already started, so training as close to the actual game as possible was needed. It was not easy to rent a large playground in the metropolitan area. Fortunately, we were able to rent a playground in Asan in the province south of Changseong.

My team consisted of friends from the soccer team during my school years who are now pursuing their own careers. Dijon Juniors who had played as players as recently as possible played the role of the opposing team. Since the purpose was not to play casually with friends, I gave the game my best.

Even my friends who had stopped playing football knew my condition and the purpose of the game that day, so despite the bad weather and the pouring rain, everyone responded with all their might. I also pushed as hard as I could and fought hard, just like in real life. They didn’t hesitate to pull their shirts to prevent a counter attack. It looked like a normal match more than expected.

During my three weeks in Korea, I was able to improve my physical condition thanks to the help of many people around me, both competitively and mentally. I promised myself that I would never forget the people who helped me in difficult situations.”

For his stay in Munich, the negotiation with a team from a major European league…

“Before we knew it, the transfer window for the major European leagues would close in four days. We decided it would be better to move to Europe. In the end, we were talking to three clubs. Talks with two of them were very advanced. I stayed at one hotel near the Munich airport in Germany and worked out in the hotel gym to monitor the status of the negotiations.

Transfer negotiations are not an easy task. Finally, the transfer market deadline (September 1st in Europe) has arrived. I felt anxious because I thought that if I did not complete the transfer within that day, the transfer to a major league would not come within the current year.

Of the two clubs we were negotiating with, the talks were completed with the one that showed the most active interest. I got my plane ticket and left for Munich airport. I felt like saying goodbye to the Munich airport and hotel where I anxiously waited four days for the results.

On his transfer to Red Star:

“While I was with the national team in Cardiff, I was contacted by a club from the Serbian league called Red Star. The summer transfer window was closed for the big 5 European leagues, but transfers were still possible for other leagues in Europe.

In fact, Asteras already knew that I had negotiated with clubs from the Big 5 leagues. When transfers to these clubs collapsed, he decided to take action.

The sincerity shown by the management of Red Star during the meeting was also noteworthy. Above all, the higher transfer fee in the Serbian league was in itself a proof of loyalty to me. Trusting the sincerity of the club, I decided to become a player.

Instead of saying it was a decision I had no choice about, I’d like to say, I’ll say it’s a prestigious club in Eastern Europe. A club that takes part in the UEFA Champions League groups and even won the competition in the 1990-91 season approached me, who was so desperate. So I would like to express that I was moved by their move.”
