The Governmental National Security Council (GNCSC) met today under Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

According to the statement of government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis, “the subject of the meeting was the terrorist attacks by Hamas in Israel and the situation in the Gaza Strip, and their effects on Greece and the wider region.

During the meeting, an overall overview of the situation in the region was given, as well as an update on the repatriation of Greek citizens from Israel under the coordination of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

It is noted that “Eleftherios Venizelos” airport is one of the four points in Europe that serve repatriation flights from Israel, which it will continue to serve for foreign nationals as well.

All aspects of the crisis in the region were discussed with an emphasis on the dimension of security, internal and external.

The Greek authorities are always on the alert. The policy of guarding the land and sea borders continues with undiminished intensity.”
