Greece, in the U15 age category, won two bronze medals at the World Wrestling Championships in Loutraki, an event with a huge degree of difficulty. Anastasia Mylonas and Thanos Kastanas, performing great performances, won the bronze medal, opening the… medal collection of the Greek expedition.

The first medal for the Greek colors at the U15 Grappling World Championship is a fact and it came from Anastasia Mylonas. The young athlete had an excellent presence in all her competitions in the group in which she took third place which also gave her the bronze medal.
She started with an impressive upset in the first match against Ukraine’s Tetiana Tkachik, when she counterattacked in the last minute and a half to win 8-7, although she found herself behind 7-2. In the second match of the group she was defeated 9-1 by the Spanish GarcÃa RodrÃguez.
In her third match against Darina Tomacinska, the young Greek athlete, although she found herself behind 5-0, tried hard to make the turnaround, she was reduced to 5-2, but was eventually defeated 6-3 by the Ukrainian.
However, despite the defeat, and given that Roumana Rusou did not compete, Mylona was not left off the podium, with the silver medal won by Tomarcinska and the gold by Rodriguez.
The second Greek medal at the U15 Grappling World Championship is a fact and it came from Thanasis Kastanas, a little while after that of Anastasia Mylonas. Kastanas got off to a great start in the -66kg quarter-final where he defeated Spain’s Gabari Vargas 6-2.
In the semi-final, he was defeated by Ukraine’s Ivan Sofroni, but had another chance to reach the third step of the podium through the bronze medal match.
There, Kastanas had an excellent performance against France’s Frédéric Planquet. He led 2-1 and 5-1 before Planque cut it to 5-3.
In the same category in the qualifier, Adam Karamanolis failed against Ivan Sofroni and was defeated 9-0, but he reached the repechage as the Ukrainian reached the final.
There, the Greek wrestler failed to qualify for the bronze medal match, as he was eliminated by Planke. The gold medal was won by the Ukrainian Oleksiy Bolbochan, who beat his compatriot Sofroni in the final, who was limited to silver, while the other bronze was won by the Spanish Carbal GarcÃa.
In the -73 kg category, Stavros Asvestas was defeated by technical superiority by Kazakh Kumarkhan Umarbai.
At -57 kg, Georgia Karamanoli was first defeated by Spain’s Alejandra Banol.
