British and world football has been plunged into sadness since Saturday afternoon (21/10), with the news of death of Sir Bobby Charlton.
The legendary English midfielder who excelled for over 17 years in her shirt Manchester United passed away at the age of 86 and while in 2020 he had been diagnosed with dementia.
Through one emotional announcement, the “red devils” they said goodbye one of their own people who came out of the “bowels” of the club and significantly helped to grow the brand name of the club.
Manchester United’s announcement in detail:
“Manchester United is in mourning following the death of Sir Bobby Charlton, one of the greatest and most loved players in our club’s history.
Sir Bobby was a hero to millions, not just in Manchester or the UK, but wherever football is played around the world.
He was admired as much for his sportsmanship and integrity as for his outstanding qualities and performances as a footballer. Sir Bobby will always be remembered as a giant of the game.
A graduate of our Youth Academy, Sir Bobby played 758 games and scored 249 goals in 17 years as a Manchester United player, winning the Champions Cup, three league titles and the FA Cup. With England, he made 106 appearances and scored 49 goals, while winning the 1966 World Cup.
After his retirement, he continued to serve the club with the distinction of manager for 39 years. His unparalleled record of achievement, character and service will forever be etched in the history of Manchester United and English football. His legacy will live on through the life-changing work of the Sir Bobby Charlton Foundation.
The club’s sincere condolences go out to his wife, Lady Norma, his daughters and grandchildren and all who loved him.”
