At the same time, he announced that in the upcoming matches Larissa-Panathinaikos and Aris-Olympiakos there will be a minute’s silence, while his last words will be displayed on the electronic signs: “Please do not hit me again”.

The announcement in detail:

«The Board of Directors of ESAKE and its president Evangelos Galatsopoulos express their grief for the murder of 19-year-old Alkis in Thessaloniki.

It only saddens everyone that a young man was lost completely unnecessarily and in such a barbaric way. Because the criminal behavior of some can not be justified by the passion for their team.

Sport is a game. It is life. It offers beautiful moments and joys. Creates bonds of friendship and camaraderie. It does not separate people, it does not injure or kill.

It is the responsibility of all of us to clearly distinguish sport from bigotry and indiscriminate violence. To teach everyone and especially young people that the rivalry concerns only the four lines of the field and the effort to overcome ourselves, to become better.

To teach, too, that sport can not thrive in an environment of violence.

A minute of silence will be observed in Alkis’ memory before the start of the next two meetings of the Stoiximan Basket League Larissa – Panathinaikos OPAP and Aris – Olympiakoswhile the last words of the murdered young man will be displayed on the electronic signs: “Please do not hit me again”.

The athletes of the teams will also bring mourning to their jerseys.

We express our sincere condolences to the family of 19-year-old Alkis. It is the duty of all of us in his memory to preserve the basic principles of sports “.
