Despite the fact that the war in the Middle East between Israel and Hamas raging, h Maccabi Tel Aviv will continue to compete in the Euroleague, playing its home games in Serbia.

The administrative leader of the Israeli team, Shimon Mizrahispoke to Sport5 about what happened at the Euroleague meeting that resulted in this decision, stressing that all teams expressed full cooperation.

His statements to the Israeli Media in detail:

“The meeting took place yesterday in Istanbul. The first item on the agenda was the situation in Israel and its implications for the continuation of our games and their location. It is obvious that due to the turbulent situation today, several questions have arisen that we have been asked to answer.

At the end of the day, we discovered the unity of all 13 teams that took part in the meeting – and especially the deliberate, decisive and very good hand of the Euroleague administration, which strongly supported the continuation of the games and even accepted a proposal to play the home games us at this stage in Belgrade’s historic stadium, Hala Pionir. In this place I would like to thank the Serbs who showed true friendship towards us.

All groups expressed full cooperation. Questions and answers were given. I would like to say that the news about the position of the Turkish teams towards us is not accurate and they even supported the continuation of the games. no vote was taken on the matter at all. Euroleague management showed leadership and together with all the teams in the league showed unity. It is clear to us that precisely in these difficult days, it was important to insist that the games continue despite the many difficulties and the defeat of the home team at this stage.”
