IOC leaves boxing & weightlifting outside the 2028 Olympics – Pushes for changes in their administration

In the decision to leave out of the first list of their competitions 2028 Olympic Games to be held at Los Angeles boxing, weightlifting and modern pentathlon received the International Olympic Committee.

The announcement of the list of competitions that have been approved to be in the program is absent for these three sports, but which are normally in the program of 2024 Olympic Games.

Although listening to this news raises many questions, there is an explanation. This is a clear attempt by the ILO to put pressure on its administrations World Federations of sports to take some decisions that will harmonize with the minimum necessary conditions set by the IOC to include sports in the programs of the Olympic Games.

For example, the World Federation boxing which is recognized by ILOplagued by serious internal issues, by opacity in its beginnings, and in the decision-making processes, in the conduct of the Games in the Games up to “holes” that have been found to exist in its financial books.

THE ILO had pushed for changes that did not take place, with the sport remaining on the calendar at the Olympics. In fact, the IOC itself, in a relevant position, as reported in the media abroad, clarifies that all three sports can be in the final list of sports that will be included in the calendar, all three of which are mentioned.
