by

With a partial score of 29-15 in the fourth quarter, Olympia Milano turned the derby with Anadolu Efes into a walk and returned to winning ways with a final score of 92-76. At 3-6 the record of the Italian team, at 4-5 now the Turkish team.

Chief among the winners were Shields, who filled his stats with 18 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and Hall, who finished the game with 15 points, 3 rebounds and 5 assists. Great game by him too Honey, who had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. On the losing side, who collapsed in the fourth quarter, it was Clyburn with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists.

The match:

The two teams were quite misguided at the start, as can be seen from the 6-6 at 5′, however, the sequel was different. Both tried to impose their pace through the attack, with the home team having Lo and Meli leading the way with 8 and 7 points respectively, while for the guests, those who “pulled the oar” in scoring were Clyburn and Beaubois with 8 and 5 anyone. Neither could escape the score, with the first quarter ending at 19-18.

Although neither was super accurate, the score was still pretty high. The Italian team entered the second quarter better and with a partial 8-2, took a seven point difference (27-20) at 14′. Ettore Messina’s players took advantage of everything their opponents gave them and with Shields’ first basket, which was for three points, they also reached +9 (36-27), two and a half minutes before the end of the half. But, the Turkish team reacted and “collected” the difference, reducing it to 43-39 after 20 racing minutes.

With 1/2 shots of Clyburn, Anatolou Efes tied Olympia in 48-48, two and a half minutes into the second half, with both teams going point-for-point from there on. Lo, Meli, Mirotic were in double figures for the hosts and Thompson and Clyburn for the visitors. The match was a derby and with the exception of a couple of times when either side took a lead of three or four points, neither could escape the score, with the third quarter ending with 63-61.

At the beginning of the fourth, Olympia “stepped on the gas” and with individual scores of 12-4, reached the difference to +10 for the first time (75-65). Efes tried to mount a reaction and partially succeeded, after cutting it to 79-73 with three and a half minutes to go. Those who expected the derby match to happen again, fell out. The hosts “stepped on the gas”, the guests “ate dust”, after the difference reached 19 points (92-73)with the final score being the 92-76.

The quarters: 19-18, 43-39, 63-61, 92-76.
