Argentina’s unbeaten run ended by Uruguay, Dias redeemer win for Colombia over Brazil

by

The “big ones” found it dark in the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup in the Latin American zone.

THE Uruguay beat me 2-0 Argentina in the “Bobonera” putting ending his 25-game unbeaten streak in the World Cup qualifiers. Ronald Araujo in the 41st minute and Darwin Nunes in the 87th minute scored the goals for the visitors, while the world champions – with Lionel Messi in the starting lineup and Olympiakos’ Francisco Ortega on the sidelines – despite having the upper hand and several chances were unable to react .

In Barranquilla the Colombia got great 2-1 win and upset against Brazil. The Seleção took the lead through Martinelli in the 4th minute, but the hosts turned the game around within five minutes towards the end of the game. Luis Diaz, days after the happy ending of his parents’ release from kidnappers, equalized in the 75th minute and made it 2-1 in the 79th minute, both goals with headers, as his father sobbed in the stands.

In the other two matches that took place in the morning, Venezuela-Ecuador and Chile-Paraguay, there were no winners or… goals (0-0).
