Prominent UWW Vice President Theodore Hamakou, Greece is further strengthening its position in the world of wrestling, having five active representatives in the decision-making centers in the World Federation for the future of the sport.

Specifically, Giannis Barbas will represent Greece in the scientific committee, Lia Nikolaou joined the coaching committee and Dr. Loukas Konstantinou joined the medical committee. Subsequently, Konstantinos Papakonstantinou was elected for the Wrestling Committee in Ammos, while Vangelis Koutras was elected in Pagratio.

It should be noted that the renewed Committees concern the Paris Olympics ’24 and were finalized after the meeting of the Bureau that took place last week.

With the new composition, all continents are represented in the Committees, while an overall increase in the representation of women is recorded.

During the meeting, the Bureau also discussed current plans for launching the implementation of the Five-Year Strategic Plan presented at the Belgrade Congress. The plan includes UWW’s focus on youth, women’s wrestling, wrestling image and digital transformation.

The announcement of the World Federation states: “At its meeting on January 20, 2022, the Board of Directors approved the members of the UWW Committees.

We congratulate all the members and look forward to working with them. We thank all the national federations for sending their applications and for their interest. On this occasion, we also warmly thank the outgoing members for their valuable contribution to the struggle over the past years.

The relevant UWW departments will work with the committees and their members to organize their work.

The Board of Directors of the World Federation expects the members of the Committees to work actively in this direction, throughout their term, with the confidence that, through the exchange of innovative ideas, we will further develop our sport.
