The joint message of Elite League and A1 Women against gender violence

by

On the occasion of November 25, which is the world day for its elimination, they send their own strong message against violence against women through the EEC website, athletes from the Elite League Henry Dunan and A1 Women.

The announcement:

One of the most widespread violations of human rights in the world remains violence against women, with November 25 being the International Day for its Elimination.

The Hellenic Basketball Federation must not stand idly by and stands by the side of women. On this important day, the Hellenic Basketball Federation (EEC) joins forces with the Strong Me movement, strengthening the movement’s ongoing efforts to prevent and combat gender-based violence.

In this context, the teams of the A1 Women’s National Team and the Elite League-Errikos Dunan join their voices and with the slogan “In the fight against gender-based violence we play on the same team”, promote a strong message for the elimination of all forms of violence wherever and it takes place.

Worldwide, it is estimated that tens of millions of women, nearly one in three, have experienced physical or sexual violence by a partner, sexual violence by a non-partner, or both, at least once in their lifetime.

The data on gender-based violence in Greece, as derived from a survey by the National Center for Social Research (EKKE) on behalf of Eurostat, cause concern and great reflection.

29.6% of women state that they have suffered physical violence, 18.1% state that they have suffered sexual violence and 36.5% physical or sexual violence. Psychological violence, which is practiced only in intimate partner relationships, appears as the most frequent form of violence reported by women at 40.4%.
