Almeida: “Let’s do what we did at Brighton – Pineda needs protection, Pizarro will like it in the end”

by

The recipe (and especially the aptness) of the first match with Brighton characterized as the secret of success for the second o Matias Almeida.

At the usual press conference, her technician AEK noted that his team will try to do it again her game and giving her too soul of claiming new triumph against such a quality opponent.

It was also mentioned, after a relevant question, to Pineda and Pissarroemphasizing that the former needs protection (and from his national) with regards to continuous matchwhile the second will leave it stigma of when completely adjusted.

What Almeida said in detail

On what AEK needs to do to win: “Tomorrow’s match is another important one for us. A game against an opponent who plays some of the most beautiful football in the world. The game we played in England was tough and equal. We will try to make an equivalent match tomorrow and to finish our game. Always knowing which team we are going to face. But it will be eleven against eleven.”

On the good intuition he had when he came to AEK and the intuition he now has about the group: “They are different sensations. When I came I had a very clear goal and we were able to achieve it. By achieving this goal, we were able to participate in Europe. And what we do is play in very strong teams and with different realities.

When I refer to realities, I mean the leagues involved, the investments made, the many differences at many levels. That is why I am very happy that AEK still has a chance of qualifying from the group. What I feel is that as long as the numbers allow it, we have a chance. And I’m coaching a group that the players will give their souls to.”

Regarding what AEK should do differently compared to the previous two in the group in order to get the victory this time: “We will have to play in this way, against an opponent who is difficult. And then playing in the same way, to be more accurate in the few opportunities that are created in these games. We have too much appetite. We want to win a game at home. And tomorrow will be a big game.”

For Pineda and Pissarro: “What Pineda did was participate in the national team, he played well. One year is without holidays. I have used him in various positions. I know that this body will fail at some point. I try to manage the way he trains. In some games I have taken him out. But there are two of us who care about Pineda. But with such long journeys in such short periods of time, we must also protect the footballer. I took care of him for the national team. He was chosen as the best foreigner. And I think there are some matches that are not important and he doesn’t have to travel all the time and he could rest. But Pineda is always happy and wants to play for the national team. Pineda took time to adjust to Europe in Spain.

Pizarro is currently in the process of adapting and it is not easy to change his playing style from one day to the next. I know how much he can give, we have talked a lot, he has to be patient and I know the effort he made. The great effort to fulfill his own dream of playing in Europe. He left millions to come and play here and I appreciate that for a footballer. He came to seek glory, not money. When he first started he had some minor injuries. When needed in critical moments, he will be ready. He is a winning player, he has been a champion everywhere and he will do the same here.

It may take a bit longer for a player when changing country and league. He is a player who does not use reporters. I like it the way it is. He cares about football and nothing else. In the end it will like it, in the end it will perform well. I really appreciate that he doesn’t care about money.”

On Araujo’s return and thoughts on the starting line-up: “It is true that when players return from injury we must protect them. From the first day we started this streak, we had players with problems. And what we don’t want is for them to go back to the periods they were off. We are in close contact with the medical staff and can see the fatigue and loads of each player. And as for tomorrow’s match, today we will decide who will start.”
