Carvalhal: “We know the greatness of Olympiakos – Changes must be made… yesterday”

The new coach of Olympiakos is Carlos Carvalhal! The Portuguese technician was presented by his compatriot and new technical director of the “red and whites”, Pedro Alves, for the next 1+1 year.

THE 58 years old coach of Piraeus, during his first statements he emphasized that he knows the greatness of the club, praised the fans who came to the side of the team in Volos after the heavy defeat in Freiburg, while he also listed the changes he intends to make in the competitive part.

Among other things, Carlos Carvalhalreferred to the time it will take for Olympiacos to change its image, the elements required in order to achieve it, while he also looked back on the period he was in England, stressing that this is how his coaching mentality changed.

In detail what he said:

“I am happy to return to Greece for Olympiakos. My staff and I know the greatness and size of the club, it is one of the most important teams in Europe and the world. The fact that after the heavy defeat, 6,000 people followed the team to Volos shows how big a club they are. We are here to win. I wish we have the world with us, we want Gate 7. We are here to realize the world’s goals and only together will we succeed.”

For his passage through Greece and for Asteras Tripoli: “My time in Greece was short and I didn’t have time to adapt. I always wanted to go back to Greece and get to know the country. Many years have passed since then and I’ve been to teams that had a lot of pressure like Braga, Besiktas, where the fans demand wins and I know what it’s like to be at a club that always wants to win. After my move to Swansea we chose for our own reasons not to work but then we went to teams that were successful. We want the same here. Let’s continue with the same success, win titles and do great things».

For the time it will take to present what he wants with Olympiakos: “I have the obligation to win in any team I coach. I have a lot of experience, from many teams and many leagues. The changes must be made… yesterday and the important thing is to win the next league game.”

For the elements that Olympiacos will want to have: “Before I start I want to wish Diego Martinez all the best. Obviously we aim to make some changes and we want the team to have a style of play. It takes time, but it will happen. The teams I coach are aggressive, with Olympiakos we want them to play well, for the crowd to be happy and for the players to have the best phase of their careers.”

On his passage from England: “The truth is that after the move to England the mentality changed, the style of play became more attractive for the players, the result more satisfying for the fans and overall much better results.”

On the changes he wants to make at Olympiakos: “The priority is to unite the team. The defense together, the attack together, with the world with us, because in Olympiakos when we all unite together, then we become a very big force and we will take advantage of this force to lead us to winning the title”.
