Unthinkable: More B’ and C’ division teams than the Bundesliga in the quarterfinals of the German Cup!

For one more year German Cup confirms that it is the ultimate institution of surprises.

How else can one comment that from the eight groups who have booked a place in the quarter-finals, only three are playing in the Bundesliga!

Leverkusen, Stuttgart and Gladbach they are the only ones that… still survive, while the B division has four representatives (Fortuna Dusseldorf, St. Pauli, Hertha Berlin and Kaiserslautern) while the C division has one (Saarbrucken).

The draw of December 10th, when we will also know the pairs of “8”, is gathering a lot of interest.

The last time we had 3/8 of the salons at this stage of the event was in the 2003/04 seasonwith Bayern Munich, Gladbach and Werder Bremen reaching the quarter-finals and the latter eventually winning the title, defeating Aachen 3-2.

It is worth noting that none of the teams that have won the DFB-Pokal title in the last 25 years are continuing in this year’s institution!

Which means that for the first time since 1997when Stuttgart had taken it, we will see the team lift the cup apart from Bayern, Dortmund, Leipzig, Schalke, Werder Bremen, Eintracht, Wolfsburg and Nuremberg.
