The debate on the bill will continue today, at 09:00 in the morning, with the focus being on any improvement interventions in individual provisions, which the Ministry of National Economy and Finance is expected to proceed with.
The first meeting of the Plenary of the Parliament on the bill “measures to limit tax evasion” was completed in the early hours of the morning, with the taxing of self-employed professionals and businessmen at the forefront.
The discussion will continue at 09:00 and now the interest is directed to any improvement interventions in individual provisions, which the Ministry of National Economy and Finance is expected to proceed with.
PASOK submitted a request to hold a roll call vote on the principle and in three articles: Article 15 on the “minimum amount of net income from the exercise of individual business activity” (including imputed income for self-employed professionals), Article 49 on the ” reduction of capital accumulation tax rate”, and article 50 on “reduction of listed shares sales tax rate”.
The request for a roll-call vote for articles 49 and 50 was submitted by PASOK on the grounds that the government, at the same time as it “exterminates” freelancers, “reserves tax reductions for large companies”.
The General Accounting Office of the State estimates that the annual loss of revenue from the “reduction of the capital accumulation tax rate” and the “reduction of the tax rate on the sale of listed shares” will be approximately 43 million euros.
The government states that the bill delivers justice and promotes a fairer tax system, which will help reduce tax evasion and increase public revenue. He expresses the belief that the measures have the support of society and the majority of the self-employed.
Deputy Minister of Finance Nikos Papathanasis stated that the result of the implementation of the bill will be that approximately 17% of professionals will pay a tax of 1,000 euros and 54% will pay a tax of 3,000 euros.
Deputy Finance Minister Haris Theoharis stated that the bill recovers 3 billion from the total of the measures it introduces. “From the freelancers we expect to collect only 500 million”, explained Mr. Theoharis.
The government has committed that the 3 billion euros that will be secured will be directed to health and education.
