With a 14-0 run in the fourth period, Real Madrid “cleaned” Bayern Munich 88-73 at the “Vizink Center” for the 14th matchday of the Euroleague and reached 13-1 their record in this year’s competition, leaving it at 6-8 the Bavarians and at -2 from the privileged six.

The European champions struggled in the first half, but in the third period they reached double figures and in the fourth a 14-0 run put them at +18 in the Bavarians’ desperate attempt to get into the game.

Leaders of the “merenches” were Yule with 16, Campacho with 13, Hezonia with 12 and Poirier, Rodriguez with 11 points. For the Germans, Bonga stood out with 15, Booker with 14 and Francisco Edwards with 11 points.

The match

Real’s many solutions led to 8-0 at the start of the match, but Bonga took matters into his own hands and initially reduced it to 8-5 and leveled at 10-10. A 5-0 run by the Bavarians made it 12-15 for Pablo Lasso’s team and Francisco with his personal actions brought +3 for Bayern and Edwards’ three-pointer made it 19-23 in the first period.

Poirier and Deck combined for a 5-0 run to open the second period to make it 24-23, but a 4-0 run by Bayern made it 24-27. The European champion responded with a 5-0 run for 31-29 and Poirier led a 6-0 run for 37-31. Yule’s 3-pointer made it 40-33 and the half ended 42-37. Real had 13/33 two-pointers and 26 rebounds and Bayern 10/24 two-pointers, 5/5 shots and 20 rebounds.

With +5 and +7 alternating at the start of the third period, Hezonia made it 51-41 and Campacho made it 54-43 for the “merenches”. Hezonia’s 3-pointer made it 57-45, but an 8-0 Bavarian run led by Edwards cut it to 57-53. Real responded with a 4-0 run to make it 61-53 and, despite Bayern’s 4-0 run, the quarter finished 63-57.

Led by Rodriguez and Yule, Real went on a 14-0 run to open the fourth quarter to take a 77-59 lead, setting the stage for its 13th straight victory. Bayern with a 4-0 run reduced to 77-63 and later to 80-68. The difference ranged between +12 and +15 for the Chus Mateo players, who had improved their percentages in two-pointers and left in many surprises. 84-72 was maintained for no two minutes until Campacho made it 86-72 with two shots and Hezonia made the final 88-73.
