Goalkeeper Sidney Aparecido Ramos, known as Sidão, received this week the approximately R$60,000 in compensation that Globo owed him after losing a lawsuit filed by the player against the broadcaster. The athlete will be able to move the money in the next few days.
The information was confirmed by Sidão’s lawyer, Marcelo Morel, when F5. “Globo has already deposited in court the amount of the sentence, which plus interest, correction and succumbence funds, reached approximately R$ 60 thousand. On our side, we petitioned the judge requesting the withdrawal of said amount”, he says Morel.
The action was opened by Sidão in 2020, at the TJ-SP (São Paulo Court of Justice). On May 12, 2019, Mother’s Day, Sidão started for Vasco in the match against São Paulo. The goalkeeper made several mistakes that were crucial to the result: a 3-0 setback for the Rio team.
That year, Globo began to elect the “Game Crack” in the matches it broadcast and placed the responsibility in the hands of viewers, through internet voting. Sidão was elected with 90% of the votes, in a situation considered a laughingstock.
The broadcaster nevertheless handed the trophy to the goalkeeper, placing him in a position that he found embarrassing. “The broadcaster could simply have chosen not to give the trophy to the author, saving him from such humiliation and embarrassment on national television”, the lawyers told the court.
Sidão also said that the case made his football contracts dwindle. In its defense, Globo stated that, after the case, it modified the award regulations to avoid new situations of this type and made a public and private apology to the athlete. TV recalled, however, that he was already old enough for a player at the time.
Globo lost in every instance in which it tried to reverse the decision. With no way out, the broadcaster decided to pay the compensation in court, which will be made available to the player soon.
In total, the company paid R$30,000 plus interest, correction, process costs and payment of fees to the lawyers who defended Sidão, which gives a total of around R$60,000. Initially, Sidão asked for R$1 million.
Currently 40 years old, Sidão played his last football season at Azuriz, a team from the first division of Paraná that competed in Série D of the Brasileirão.
