De Laurentiis: “I would without a second thought create a closed League like the NBA to replace Serie A”

by

Position on her “hot” topic European Super League and the decision of the European Court, the president of Napoli took Aurelio De Laurentiis!

After he shot his… arrows at UEFA and FIFAreported that football is a business that needs growing revenue but is run by old men with no vision, revealed that he has been in contact with Florentino Perezspoke about the new rules he wants to see, while making it clear that he would replace Serie A without a second thought, with a closed league in which groups of Italian cities with a large population will participate!

In detail what he said:

“The dominant position of UEFA and FIFA, which has been censored by the whole of Europe, has been used to give benefits in exchange for support. Those who until now have managed as a monopoly, have not understood that football is a business that needs increasing revenue.

The Super League was a wrong move that, however, led to a change. Now we have to think about it seriously. I spoke with Florentino Perez and we agreed to put some real entrepreneurs around a table. Today’s football is run by old people who have no vision”.

On Napoli not being included in the original Super League concept: “I wasn’t convinced and I told Anieli. We are losing young people, we need more dynamism. For example, not giving offsides after the ball has gone into the net. Enough. It also requires pure playing time, as is the case in basketball, and a challenge, as is the case in tennis.”

I would without a second thought create an E League, where E stands for Elite. Only teams from cities with a relatively large population will participate. If Palermo has the financial guarantees, why should they play in Serie D. Bari, with more than a million fans, cannot be in the lower divisions. Now there are teams in Serie A that are from cities with 20,000 inhabitants. They don’t even sell 10,000 tickets per game.

Seven or eight clubs dominate the league, so just add another seven with the same ambitions and we can make an Elite League with 14 clubs. Then two groups of 20 teams. The remaining categories are amateur, to help with the development of young footballers. It would be like the NBA, where the courts are packed. Ever wonder how much they earn there?’.

Because most Italian teams refused the Super League: “Who are the Italian entrepreneurs in football? Milan’s owners are in America. Those Inter, we don’t even know where they are. Those who speak for them are simply watching the balance sheet. I will be happy to meet the owner of Roma. None of them objected to a Super Cup that even the Arabs do not want to organize”.
