He had a 20-year career in England with the likes of Swindon, Brentford, Portsmouth, Stoke and Luton, had a brief stint in coaching before being won over by TV.
For the legendary Chris Kamara the reason, with the British commentator being today, Christmas Eve, 66 years old.
Kammy as he became known, worked for decades at Sky Sports and among various hilarious incidents, he gave us one that is perhaps the epitome of on camera mistakes!
In April 2010, today’s birthday Kamara was watching Portmouth play Blackburn live, but he missed that Faden Borre sent off.
So when the connection was made with the studio and the presenter asked which team was left with one less player, he answered with an honest look “I don’t know Jeff, I must have missed it.”
Then, after his amused colleagues from the studio informed him that the Belgian had been expelled, he replied that “I saw him leave but I thought he had changed”!
Years later, Kamara would admit that “the program director of the show told me. When I apologized to the producer, he told me that I will spare her simply because I am who I am.
I don’t mind people pointing out my blunder all the time. There are moments that mark your career. That’s mine as far as TV goes.”
Happy birthday to Chris Kamara, who turns 66 today. ????????
