Kastritis: “We are making progress, but the most important thing is consistency”

Declarations after the comfortable victory of Aris against Slask for the 13th matchday of the Eurocup, made by the coach of Thessaloniki, Yannis Kastritis.

After congratulating his players and thanking the people of the team for the very nice atmosphere he created, the Greek coach focused on the consistency his team must show and stressed the need for his players to adapt to the style of play that has been chosen.

What Aris’ coach said in detail:

“We are happy for the win, regardless of Slask’s position because they have been on the rise with a great away win and defeats in the details. We had concentration and toughness in defence, so I congratulate my players for their commitment to what we had asked for. I also want to thank our crowd who once again filled the stadium, energizing the team and creating a great atmosphere.”.

For Mars’ very good stats in the game: “The stats are impressive compared to statistical performance in previous games and show progress. But I think we shouldn’t overreact. The most important thing is consistency. I don’t know if we’re going to be like that every night, there will definitely be nights where we’re not as good in those areas of the stats. I did say that we will be ready in December but I said it under normal conditions and not with so many injuries. Two days ago we trained with nine people. There are children who have been burdened. Again the team is not working under ideal conditions for the reasons I mentioned above. But I don’t have the slightest doubt that we will reach the point we want because we have children with a fighting spirit and good characters. We want to stay consistent in defense, hopefully we have the attack as icing on the cake because we will never base our game on the attack”.

For the intervals of the long runs and the absences that had to be covered: “We don’t rely on two or three players. When you have to respond to events like the Eurocup, you need solutions and a deep roster. All children must be ready to contribute. The guys are working hard and they want it, they’ve bought into this way of playing because everyone has understood that this can lead to us reaching our ceiling. That’s the point. When we don’t do that, we’re going to eat crap, learn hard lessons and have to come back.”.
