2024 came but the transcriptology in Euroleague it never stops… Even on the last day of the year there were deals that were announced, such as the transfer of Ante Zizic to Virtus Bologna, while more additions and removals are expected in the new year.
But what are the data for the transcripts; First, players who moved from one EuroLeague team to another now have right to participate with their new teams in the competition from the 18th matchday. This category includes players such as Naz Mitrou-Long who went from Zalgiris to Olympiakos or Shabazz Napier who moved from Red Star to Armani Milano.
Moving players between EuroLeague teams will now be possible until the eve of matchday 26, i.e. until Wednesday 7 February at 19:00, but on the condition that they are released from their current teams by the eve of the start of the second round, i.e…. today at 19:00. For example, if the Tyler Dorsey wants to play in another team in the Euroleague this year, he will have to leave Fenerbahce today (!) and then he will have the right to move to his new team until February 7th at 19:00.
The same deadline, on February 7 (19:00) also applies to transfer of players from other competitions. They, however, are not obliged to be released today by their teams, while they were not limited to waiting for the start of the second round (which was the case for players coming from other Euroleague teams) to be eligible to participate. For example, O Kendrick Nunn was announced by Panathinaikos on October 31 and made his debut in the Euroleague on November 10.
However, it should be made clear that the restrictions and deadlines we mentioned only apply to the Euroleague. So, for example, Olympiacos and Panathinaikos can make transfers even after February 7, however these additions will not have the right to participate in the Euroleague, only in the domestic competitions.
It is noted that the selection of February 7 as the deadline for transfers from Euroleague teams is no accident. And that’s because after the 26th matchday, which takes place on February 8 and 9, a three week break follows! First for the domestic Cupswith the Final 8 in Greece scheduled for February 15-18, but also for the first two games of the EuroBasket 2025 qualifiers. Greece, in this case, will play on Friday, February 23 against the Czech Republic in the SEF and on Monday, February 26 against the Netherlands away from home, in the first two games of Vassilis Spanoulis on the bench of the “official favorite”.
