Leading throughout the contest, Villeurbanne defeated Zalgiris 93-79 in the ‘LDLC’ for Game 19 of the EuroLeague and ran their record to 3-16 in this year’s top European club competition, leaving the Lithuanian champions in 6 -13 and far from any hope of qualifying.

Protagonists for the winners were Louvavu-Cambaro with 27 and Fal, Lee with 22 points. For the Lithuanians, Evans stood out with 21 and Lekavicius, Schmidt with 13 points.

The match

With Louvavou-Cambaro scoring 7 points, Villeurbanne outscored Zalgiris 11-4 and 16-6 in the first five minutes of the game, with Fal as a supporter. With a 4-0 run, the French champions made it 23-12 again with Louvavu-Kabaro against the many attacking options of the Lithuanian champions, who went on a 5-0 run to reduce it to 23-17 at the end of the first period.

On a 7-0 run to start the second period, Zalgiris cut it to 25-24 and, with Ulanovas taking matters into his own hands, the lead fluctuated between +1 and +2 for the French. Lee made it 34-29, Villerban’s 7-0 run made it 46-39 and Lee’s 3-pointer made it 49-40 to end the half at 51-43. Villerban had 12/13 shots and 17 rebounds and Zalgiris 11/17 two-pointers and 13 rebounds.

A 4-0 Villeurbanne run at the start of the third period made it 55-43 with Fahl leading the way and Lee’s 3-pointer made it 60-46 for Gianmarco Poggio’s men. The French’s two straight 3-pointers cut it to 60-52, but Lee led a 9-0 run for the French +18. Evans responded with a 5-0 run to make it 72-59 late in the third period.

Lee’s 4/6 three-pointers made it 75-59 at the start of the fourth quarter for Villeurbanne, but Zalgiris went on a 5-0 run to drop to -11. Villerban responded with a 6-0 run led by Caudi for 82-64. Zalgiris responded with three consecutive three-pointers for 82-73 at 3’39” before the end. A 4-0 run by Villeurbanne made it 88-75 at the 2:30 mark and the failure on either side then simply made it 93-79 and Villeurbanne’s third win.
