The match
Olympiacos started with Fal, Peters, Papanikolaou, Kanan and Walkap. After the familiar and balanced first two minutes (5-5), Parker became unsolvable… a problem with his peripheral shots for the “red and white” defense, as a result of which Barcelona went to +11 (18-7), at 5′ . Then, the Piraeus reacted through their defense, but also the activation of Peters and Kanan offensively, reducing the difference to three points (23-20), in the 8th minute. However, in the last two minutes Barzoka’s players did not make good decisions on both sides of the floor, with the “Blaugrana” going on a 4-0 run, for +7 (27-20) at the end of the first period.
At the beginning of the second quarter, Olympiacos had a rhythm offensively with Williams-Goss and Lorentzakis, but the many missed defensive rebounds gave Barcelona the opportunity to maintain their lead (33-26) until the 14th minute. Then the “red and whites” became tougher in defense, cutting off the pace of the hosts, who scored mostly with shots. On the other hand, Williams-Goss and Brazdeikis were very hungry offensively, with the Piraeus team constantly gnawing away at the distance and even going ahead (40-41), at 19′. However, she was… pressed by another missed rebound in the remaining time and thus Parra sent the Catalans to the locker room with +3 (44-41).
A bad start from Olympiakos in the second half, as Barcelona entered “hot” from the periphery and with individual scores of 10-4, initially escaped to +9 (54-45), while with Kalinic’s three-pointer it went back to +11 (58 -47), in the 24th minute. Fal and Walkap temporarily “unstuck” Piraeus with a 5-0 of their own (58-52). However, back-to-back “cheap” mistakes followed that gave points in the open field to the Catalans, who with Hernangometh and Parker, escaped to +15 (69-54), in the 27th minute. With two good defenses, the “red and white” found a 5-0 again (69-59), but they had no follow-up and so the home team led by Hernangomet closed the third period at +12 (75-63).
With a Yokoubaitis basket at the beginning of the fourth quarter, Barcelona escaped to +14 (77-63). Immediately, there followed excellent defenses by Olympiakos, who forced the Catalans into unanswerable mistakes and forwards in the Williams-Goss attack, and McKissick responded with a 10-0 run (77-73), until the 34th minute. Parker temporarily unstuck the home team, with the “red and white” responding with Kanan and reducing (79-76), in the 36th minute. In the next two minutes, both had missed attacks, with Hernangometh’s shots, from a missed defensive rebound, breaking the … pomegranate and Canaan reducing again (81-78). However, in the final two minutes, Barzoka’s men found neither Peters nor Kanan on target, with Kalinic-Satoranski making it 5-0 for Barcelona and giving them the final 86-78 win.
The quarters: 27-20, 44-41, 75-63, 86-78
