In the podcast entitled “Stick to the football”, o Jamie Carragher revealed a story from the past that could affect the entire course of Liverpool.
Specifically, the once legendary defender of Liverpool stated that in the summer of 2017, Jurgen Klopp had qualified the Julian Brandt and how he preferred the German striker to the Mohamed Salah.
“He didn’t want to sign him, he wanted Julian Brandt. Liverpool had tried to buy Salah before he went to Chelsea and the people at the club who remained when he went to Roma were adamant about whether to sign him. We see what Salah has achieved, but it could easily have been done differently“, Jamie Carragher pointed out.
Brandt’s excellent presence in the 16/17 season, with 4 goals and 11 assists, but also his common origin with Klopp seems to have initially influenced the Liverpool coach. However, the final choice justified the German coach for his decision.
Salah is one of Liverpool’s most important players and has contributed greatly to their recent success. With the Merseyside club he has made 332 appearances with 204 goals and 88 assists.
Mbrandt, 43 times international with Germany, has been playing in Dortmund since 2019, scoring 29 goals in 143 appearances.
