He lost the first set and… Olympiacos went wild

by

Olympiacos prevailed 3-1 set of Go Polichnis in “M. Merkouri” for the eleventh matchday of the Men’s Volleyball League.

After a big win over European champions ZAKSA in midweek, the “red and whites” continued to impress and stayed at the top of the table, leaving no room for their pursuers. Now, they turn their attention to the difficult battle with Zirat in Ankara, for the groups of the Champions League.

Pegasus, on the other hand, who were impressive in the first set, failed to continue winning after the victory over Phoenix and remained in fifth place in the standings, with Athlos, Kalamata and the Syrians… lurking.

The Polichni team surprised Olympiakos in the first set. The team of Yannis Orfanos took advantage of the slow start of Piraeus and with the newly acquired Hazelden to immediately make his presence felt, he reached 18-18. He then went on a four-point streak, which was stopped by Chandrinos. Kapetanidis led Pegasus to a bowl set (20-24), while Armenakis made the 1-0 set 25-20.

Pegasos entered the second set with individual runs of 5-1, but Olympiacos reacted with Hidalgo’s serve and reduced to 6-5, while with a new run they escaped to 11-8. Pegasus failed to find answers at any point from there on, with the “red and whites” tying the set at 1-1 with a 25-15 sweep.

The third set was more balanced, with the two teams tied at 14-14. Koumentakis and Hidalgo gave Olympiakos a two-point lead at a crucial point (18-16) and that’s essentially where the set ended. With Zoupanis on the serve, the “red and white” ran a five-point run for 23-17 and opened the way for the 2-1 set with 25-18. In the fourth set, Olympiacos was sweeping, with Pegasus “surrendering”, for the 3-1 set with 25-14.

The sets: 21-25, 25-15, 25-18, 25-14
