THE Olympic kicked out of the Betsson Cup losing 7-6 to Panathinaikos on penaltieswith João Carvalho and Mandy Camara to be the fates, as they failed to score from the white bullet in two decisive executions. But what is their past on penalties?
According to transfermarkt data, the Portuguese midfielder in regular match flow has taken six penalties in his career and has hit half of them, but none of those attempts have been at Men’s level. In particular, the 26-year-old ace had two well-placed penalties with Benfica in the Youth League on 21/10/2015 and 6/12/206 against Galatasaray (11-1 away win) and Napoli (2-0 home win ), while on 23/3/2018 in the Euro 2021 qualifiers he had scored with a penalty against Liechtenstein (7-0).
On the contrary, he had failed on 3/11/2015 in the victory over Galatasaray at home (2-0) for the Youth League, but also in two matches for the Euro 2021 qualifiers, on 14/11/2017 in the 2-1 against Switzerland and on September 7, 2018 in a 1-2 loss to Romania.
As for Mandy Kamara? The midfielder from Guinea has never taken (!) a penalty in regular match flow.
Therefore, it seems that although the options were limited anyway, Carvalho who has 3/6 and most recent execution in 2018, but also Kamara who has never taken a penalty, were not the most suitable options for Olympiakos.
