Lioliou’s contacts in Epirus with local bodies and basketball players

Epirus has been visited since yesterday, Thursday 18/1, by the president of the EEC Vangelis Liolios, for a series of contacts with local bodies and with players of basketball clubs in the region.

The purpose of the visit was to discuss the prospects of taking over basketball events from cities in the Region, but also to have extensive discussions with the associations about the progress that exists in issues that concern them and for further improvements that they would like and are possible to make.

The first stop of the president of the EEC, who is accompanied by the general director of the Federation, Dino Sverkounos, was Ioannina, where he had meetings with the Epirus Regional Governor Alekos Kahrimanis and with the Mayor of Ioannina, Thomas Bega.

In the discussion with Mr. Kahrimanis, there were references to the problems of the Epirus basketball clubs, as well as the plan for the field facilities in the area and the scope for improvement interventions that exist.

With Mr. Bega, issues related to the support of the basketball clubs of the region, which has intense activity at all levels, were analyzed. This was followed by a visit to the city’s new indoor gym and there, there was contact with the representatives of the unions who presented their opinions in a very constructive dialogue for the first time.

The continuation of the visits and talks was in Arta. The meeting was attended by the Mayor of the city, Christoforos Siafakas, the Deputy Mayors of Sports Christos Giotis and Culture Kostas Charaklias, the General Secretary of the Municipality of Artaia, Christos Papanikolaou, and officials of the Prefecture’s Basketball Associations.

The Mayor of Artaion welcomed the president of the EEC, speaking with words of praise for the actions of the Hellenic Basketball Federation in the promotion of basketball, expressing also the strong desire of the Municipal authority to undertake important sports events.

Vangelis Liolios expressed his appreciation for the support of the Mayor and his commitment to the promotion of basketball in the region and characteristically said that “your intention to host important events will have a positive impact on the city”.

During this meeting, it was agreed to continue cooperation with the aim of assigning important basketball events to Arta at regular intervals, with the president of the EEC expressing the intention to start with the final phase of this year’s Panhellenic Youth Championship and to have similar continuation.

Before the visit to the indoor gym in Kostakiou, where the meeting ended, there was an exchange of gifts, with the EEC people handing over a Giannis Antetokounmpo shirt and the Mayor of Arta reciprocating with the city’s digital guide.

Following his tour, Vangelis Liolios will visit clubs in Corfu and Thesprotia where he will have a series of contacts.

In the coming weeks, this cycle of visits and contacts will continue in other regions of the country, in order to listen closely to the problems of the clubs and to discuss the prospects for the development of basketball in the region.
