The course of bilateral relations, issues of European interest and the enlargement of the EU in the Western Balkans were discussed during the meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Giorgos Gerapetritis with his Hungarian counterpart Peter Szijártós, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The need to de-escalate the crisis in the Middle East was also underlined, while alarming indications of the spread of the crisis in the Red Sea and the effects on maritime transport, international trade and the European and international economy were expressed.

At the same time, emphasis was placed on the energy cooperation between the two countries and on the role of Greece as a regional hub of energy and energy diversification.

It is noted that the visit of Peter Szijjártó to Athens took place in the context of bilateral visits carried out by the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs in view of Budapest taking over the rotating Presidency of the Council of Ministers of the European Union from July 1, 2024.
