The Blazers appealed after lost to the Thunder (109-111). The Portland team is protesting because with the score at 109-108, their coach, Chauncey Billups, persistently called for a timeout but was ignored by the referees and in the development of the phase, Malcolm Brogdon was penalized with a double dribble at 15.1”.
The Blazers coach became furious and was sent off with two technical penalties. Cy Giljus Alexander 1/2 shots tied the game and Jaylen Williams hit the game-winning shot for Oklahoma with 2.1” left.
According to the referees report, the referee was focused on the game and because of the noise from the stands didn’t hear Billups call timeout.
Under NBA rules, a team has up to 48 hours after the game to file an appeal, and can file proof of support within five days. The league then has five days to review the case.
Only six times in NBA history have objections been upheld. The most recent was on December 19, 2007, when Heat center Shaquille O’Neal was ejected for six fouls when he actually had just five. The game continued for 51.9 minutes remaining on March 8, 2008, but neither team scored and the Hawks were victorious 114-111, with “Sack” however absent, having been given between the two… parts of the match with an exchange to the Suns.
