Corinthians beats Grêmio in stoppage time and wins the Women’s Supercup

Corinthians has one more title on its list of achievements in women’s football. The club that has dominated the sport on the South American scene won the Supercopa do Brasil, this Sunday (13), with a hard-fought victory over Grêmio: 1-0, a goal scored by Gabi Zanotti in the 49th minute of the second half.

It was the first edition of the competition, whose final was held at the Neo Química Arena, in Itaquera, with a good audience. The favoritism was alvinegro, for all the recent history of triumphs, but the fans present in the arena in the east side of São Paulo only exploded in the last moments of the confrontation.

The hosts pressured a lot in the first half, without going to the net. In the second, there was balance, and the dispute was heading for a tiebreaker on penalties. Then, in stoppage time, Diany took a corner from the left. Zanotti, shirt number 10 and captain black and white, climbed well, headed in the left corner and ran towards the crowd.

“It’s incredible. I feel enlightened. It’s to congratulate the group for the strength that we demonstrate. And thank Fiel, who attended. I’m very happy to be part of this strengthening of women’s football”, said the midfielder. “We ended the year with a full house and started with a full house”, she cheered.

In December, Corinthians had a similar victory in the decision of the Campeonato Paulista. On the occasion, against São Paulo, also at the Itaquera stadium, it was Adriana who scored in stoppage time and gave the Parque São Jorge club a trophy, something that has become routine since the reactivation of its women’s team in 2016.

The State Championship was also won in 2019 and 2020. The club from the east side of São Paulo started the series of triumphs with the 2016 Copa do Brasil. Then, in addition to the aforementioned Paulistas, it took three editions of the Brasileiro, in 2018, 2020 and 2021. And lifted the Copa Libertadores in 2017, 2019 and 2021.
