Canada – Freedom Convoy: Police remove protesters and make arrests

by

THE Canadian police removed protesters and vehicles blocking traffic on a vital trade route on the U.S. border, making some arrests, but the Ambassador Bridge has not been opened to date.

A tense confrontation had been preceded between the Canadian police and protesters yesterday, as the court mandate and threats to arrests failed to end the exclusion of the bridge to Wijsor, Ontario, who now entered his sixth day.

“Law enforcement operations continue in the area of the demonstration with arrests. Vehicles are removed. “Please continue to avoid the area,” local police said in a tweet today, without elaborating on the number of arrests.

The police reinforced its presence with more than 50 vehicles today, as the number of protesters decreased to about 45 out of 100 yesterday. Winsor Police wrote in a tweet: “Zero tolerance will be shown for any illegal activity.”

Late last night, Winsor police arrested a 27-year-old man for mobilization-related crimes as part of the “Freedom Convoy”, the first arrest since the bridge began last Monday.

Despite the court order to end the occupation and the imposition of a state of emergency by the province of Ontario, police have not been able to completely disperse the crowd and restart border traffic.

“We hope it opens today,” Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens told CBC News when asked about the opening of the Ambassador Bridge.
