The situation in Cameroon continues to smell of “gunpowder”, after the exclusion of the team from the Africa Cup of Nations combined with the revelations against the head of the Football Association, Samuel Eto’o.
The once-legendary Barcelona striker has been formally charged with involvement in match-fixing, abuse of power, physical threats, incitement to violence and spreading false information. On Monday, there was a meeting between the Federation’s high-ranking officials, where the latest events were discussed, as well as how to deal with them.
The English newspaper Daily Mail reports that the resignation submitted by Eto’o was rejected by the competent executive body, while noting that this was not the first time that the 42-year-old tried to leave the position of “Fecafoot” president.
The Federation informed about its decision with an official announcement, where it typically states:The members of the executive committee decided to maintain their current positions of power and unanimously rejected the president’s resignation, thus renewing their confidence in him».
