Third way in surfing? – Surf Origin

by

Surfing policy is discussed, yes. Despite the catchy phrase: ‘politics and surfing don’t mix’, which I think is the biggest idiocy in the world, the Brazilian salty universe is pure politics.

This is because recently the telenovela “Quem vous com a CBSurf” is far from over. Eventually, the current president Adalvo Argolo, who has been in charge of the entity for a long time and collects controversies, was about to drop the bone. However, surfer and former competitor Flávio Padaratz, candidate for the ‘current-future’ president, became an ‘ex’ overnight, after being legally prevented from presiding over CBSurf.

Then, Novo Surf Brasil appears, with the promise of being the third way.

If in national politics this third way still seems murky, in surfing it has been represented by Marcelo Barros, president of the Bahia Surf Federation, and Marco Ferragina, of the Greater São Paulo Surf Association, and can be a light at the end of the year. tunnel. After all, the change of command is urgent and necessary, for several reasons.

According to the plate, Novo Surf Brasil is committed to acting with transparency and
impartiality, with the sole objective of strengthening national surfing and restoring credibility to the entity.

The next elections that will elect new representatives to command CBSurf will take place on February 22, next Tuesday.

Who are Marcelo Barros and Marco Ferragina

Marco Ferragina is from São Paulo,35, and has been dedicated to sports management for 16 years. At age 19 he was elected the youngest president of a sports association linked to surfing, Associação Paulista de Surf Universitário. He has held board positions at the Greater São Paulo Surfing Association ASGSP (2011-2013; 2019-2021 and 2021-2023); Praia Grande Surf Association APGS (2021-2024). Marco worked in the foundation and development of entities such as Associação de Skate Universitário ASU (2009), Federation of Surfing of the State of São Paulo SPSURF (2020) and Associação de Surf Feminino (2021). Marco is a graduate of ESPM and has specialization courses at FIA/USP and Northwestern College (Kellogg School of Businnes).

Marcelo Barros was president of ASI (Itacaré Surfing Association) and is currently president of the Bahia Surf Federation, where he has been since 2018. In this entity, the team led by Barros brought various events to Bahia. The Bahia Surf Federation, after years, returned to participate in the Junior Brazilian Circuit, and during its management, the Federation brought two stages of the Brazilian Women’s Championship, stages of the Brazilian Junior for three consecutive years and took the Junior World Championship to Stella Maris. Even without the support of government agencies, the Bahia Surfing Federation took the Junior Baiana Team to stages in Maracaípe (PE), Maresias (SP), Cabedelo (PB) and São Francisco do Sul (SC).
