After two years the Cup will be decided with an “eternal” derby in the final.
The Panathinaikos AKTOR and Olympiacos overcame their obstacles Mars and Prometheus of Patras in the semi-finals respectively and they will be told in the grand final of the Final 8 of the Cup (18/2, 19:00, SKAI, Cosmote Sport 5, www.sportfm.gr, News Bulletin 247), at “Dyo Aorakia”.
Last season, the two “eternal” they had met in the semi-finalwhere the “red and white” prevailed and then celebrated the back-to-back conquest of the Cup against the Pigeon bwin, in the final. She will be the 11th time that Panathinaikos AKTOR and Olympiacos they will compete in the final of the institution with the “clover” counting 20 trophies and the Piraeus 11 conquests.
The route for his team Ergin Ataman in “Two Aorakia” of Heraklion started with the quarter-final against AEK Betsson. There, the “greens” met with a lot of resistance from the Union, but they overcame its resistance, prevailing 79-72. In the semi-final, Panathinaikos AKTOR found against Aris against whom he was dominant and in the end took the victory-qualification with a score 76-65.
As far as the competitive part is concerned, the only question mark for the “greens” is the Luka Vildosa. On the eve of the semi-final, the Argentinian guard had knee problems and did not compete. However, according to the medical staff of Panathinaikos AKTOR it’s nothing serious and so is expected to be available for the final.
On the other hand, Olympiacos entered the Final 8 more comfortably. The first opponent of the “red and white” in the quarterfinals was Pigeon bwinin a match that they had the reins from very early on and in the end they prevailed comfortably 87-68. After about 24 hours, his team Giorgos Bartzokas she found opposite her Prometheus, in the semi-finals. Patrinos made it difficult for Piraeus for about 22 minutes, but then Olympiacos stepped on the… gas, escaped to a double-digit distance and in the end won 91-77taking the ticket as well.
From here on, the “red and white” are very likely to have one more significant absence. And that’s because, his participation Nigel Williams-Goss is extremely dubious for the final. The American Guard only played for 42” in the quarter final with Peristeri bwin and left with one muscle spasm in the biceps of the left leg. The odds are not in his favor and so Giorgos Bartzokas will logically not consider him. Also, out for Olympiakos is of course the injured Nikola Milutinovwhile they do not have the right to participate in the domestic competitions Shaquille McKissick and Luke Sikma.
Finally, this will be the fifth “eternal” date this year. At this moment, there is a balance between the results, with the Panathinaikos AKTOR to have won away (66-54) and at home (85-80) in its two matches Stoiximan Basket League and the Olympic to take the first two derbies, where one was the final of the Super Cup in Rhodes (75-51) and the other for the premiere of the Euroleague (88-78 in overtime), at OAKA.
