Lucescu: “Olympiacos won because they were smarter and we were naive”

by

This year’s first home defeat in the league was suffered on Sunday night (18/02) by PAOKwho was defeated by heavy 4-1 from Olympiakos in Toumba, for the 23rd matchday of the Stoiximan Super League.

After the end of the match, Razvan Lucescu, appeared disappointed with the result and the image of his team, stressing, among other things, that the “double-header of the north” tonight was naive and… unread, however stressing that the work that has been done so far this season should not be “levelled”.

Razvan Lucescu’s statements in detail:

“Today’s image is judged based on the result. That’s unfortunately in football. The problem today was that we were naive, especially in the first two goals. Then we had our chances and didn’t take advantage, while those of Olympiakos ended up in the net. Today they won because they were smarter than us.

The picture of today’s match is this, we were trying to push. If we had scored at 1-1 it would have been different. The last two goals found us in a transition defense that we were turning. They found us trying to equalize, every match has its own story, including tonight.

We don’t need to philosophize about it. The picture is this. Olympiacos had the upper hand in the first half. We tried with our transition. In the second half we were much more aggressive, we didn’t take advantage of our phases and we were naive in goal phases. In any case we must not throw away what we have done for so long. We don’t need to overanalyze the game.”
