Its new… era National team of Greece starts tonight!
The representative group of our country welcomes her tonight at the packed Peace and Friendship Stadium Czech republic (21:00, sport-fm.gr, News Bulletin 247, ERT3), in the premiere of the EuroBasket 2025 qualifiers and in its debut Vasilis Spanoulis on the “blue and white” bench.
Our national team – like the Czech Republic – participates in 6th group of the organization, together with Great Britain and Netherlandswith the first three teams getting the ticket and the qualification for the finals of the competition which will take place in the summer of 2025 in the stadiums of Cyprus, Latvia, Finland and Poland.
Greek sports fans have the opportunity tonight to see her in action “official sweetheart” for the first time after almost six months and the game and the defeat by Montenegro for the second matchday of the second phase of the World Cup 2023, a result that also marked our exclusion from the continuation of the competition.
With the coach of Peristeriou bwin now on the bench, Greece is asked to make a “restart”, starting with the Eurobasket qualifiers – next is the away game with Netherlands next Monday (26/02, 20:30) – with the background, of course, for our National team to be ready for the pre-olympic tournament which will be held in July in Greece and the SEF.
In tonight’s competition, Vassilis Spanoulis included in the 12th Kostas Papanikolaou, who underwent treatment on Thursday (22/02) due to calf discomfort, and his participation will be decided at the last minute. From there on, Michalis Lountzis, Lefteris Mantzoukas, Vangelis Zougris and Naz Mitrou-Long were “cut”. The four players will however remain in the team, as their participation in the next match, in The Hague, remains open.
On the other hand now, the Czech Republic will line up in the SEF with Tomas Satoranski, but without the injured, Jan Veselywhile Martin Svoboda and Patrick Samoura did not travel to Greece and Richard Balid and Matei Svoboda were also “cut” from the 14-team that traveled to Athens.
