Stefanidis: “I had an infection in February, then we went slowly – Today I had a little time”

THE Katerina Stefanidis failed to make it into the medal zone in his pole vault final at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow, finishing in 7th place with a jump of 4.55m.

After the end of the match, the Greek champion spoke to the ERT camera and stated that she is happy with her overall effort, as in February she had suffered from a kidney infectionas a result of which she missed many training sessions and fell behind in her preparation.

The statements of Katerina Stefanidis in detail:“I came in with the tenth/eleventh best performance and came out seventh, I’m happy with how the race went and I had some good jumps at 4.65 technically so I’m happy. In the second week of February I had some health problems, a kidney infection, I didn’t miss so many training sessions, about ten which is not that many but going back to trying to avoid any injury we went slowly. I only had ten days until we got here and I couldn’t make it to my big race and today I raced from a smaller race. And although I’m a bit disappointed as I might have gone 4.65 with the fastest time I’m glad Mitch pushed it to be honest. Because today out of the last four girls who weren’t in the eight, three left injured and because I have a nightmare from Budapest I’m glad to leave healthy and the whole year has gone very well and that makes me happy. It didn’t surprise me, of course, because the closed one hasn’t gone well for me in recent years. I’ve had a good year indoors and all the others I wasn’t good.”On what he takes from today’s match: “For us it was a test if I should race with this smaller gear all year and if it will be better but for me and Mitch it seemed better to go to the bigger gear and it is better for me.”
