Jakirovic: “Nothing is over, we know that a hot atmosphere awaits us in Thessaloniki”

Statements after his team’s victory over PAOK, in the first meeting between the two teams for the round of 16 of the Conference League, was made by the coach of the Croatian champions, Sergey Yakirovich.

After congratulating his players and making special mention of Petkovic, Susic and Spikic, he emphasized that nothing is over yet in terms of the qualification case, since everyone in his team knows the “hot” atmosphere they will face in the Toumba rematch.

For the result and how much it increases Dynamo’s chances of qualifying: “We wanted a positive result, but we know that nothing is over. I want to congratulate the guys, we were focused, very aggressive in our duels, we came out well in attack after winning balls. We scored two goals and maybe we could have scored more. It’s not easy to win, but these players are consistently in contention. I’m really happy about this win. In football, every game has its own story. Nothing is finished, we wanted a positive result because we know that a hot atmosphere awaits us in Thessaloniki”.

For the very good performance of Suchic and Spikic: “He made his debut together at Zrinsky, so I know him very well. Coming to Dinamo, he only has progress. He is a wonderful lad, who works exceptionally well. I am satisfied with how Spikic performed as well, he covered everything that his role required. All I wanted more was in some one-on-one situations for him to be more assertive and brash.”.

On Petkovic’s two-goal performance: “After the Osijek match, he was quite underestimated and I don’t know why that happened. We all know what it means to Dinamo. He is special, he can give more with one action than anyone else in an entire game. You fought like a lion, it was not easy for him and his reward was the two goals. When he is good, when Baturina is also good, then our team is very dangerous offensively”.
