Olympiacos: With one win in 9 derbies, how can they win the championship?

by

Podense’s goal gave Olympiakos the lead against Panathinaikos, but those from Bakaseta and Ioannidis (dis) led the Piraeus side to another poor result against a team contending for the championship.

Yesterday’s (1-3) defeat by the “clover” was the fifth defeat for the “red and whites” in a derby this season, with the only victory being the one in Toumba with 4-1 over PAOK in mid-February.

In nine matches, Olympiacos has lost 5 matches against the other contenders for this year’s title, has three draws (one with AEK and the other two in the Cup with Panathinaikos who eventually qualified for the semi-finals on penalties), and has won only in Thessaloniki the “Bicephalus of the North”.

The “red and white” derby record improves slightly if we count the two wins this year against Aris, but the “yellows” are not among the teams fighting for the championship and this reveals the problem that exists against the other three that the differences in the score between after yesterday’s result are very small.
