AEL issued a statement – a protest to the organizing authority of Super League 2, so that the B’ teams do not participate in the play outs for their stay and are relegated directly to the 3rd National League, as foreseen.
In detail, the announcement:
“According to the announcement of the Super League 2 for the 2023-2024 season and its article 4 entitled “Participation of Second Teams in the SUPER LEAGUE 2 Championship”, it is stipulated that the SUPER LEAGUE 2 championship of the 2023-24 season will participate four B teams of the SUPER LEAGUE 1 PAE.
More specific terms and conditions are described in the Regulation of 2nd Groups of the E.P.O.
In addition, according to article 10 par.7: “The B teams of the SUPER LEAGUE 1 PAEs participate in the SUPER LEAGUE 2 championship of the 2023-2024 season in accordance with what is defined in (REGULATION OF THE 2nd TEAMS EPO 2023)”.
In particular, as provided for in Article 2 of the EPO 2022 Second Teams Regulation, Right to Establish a Second Team and Participate in Championships for the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons, it is stipulated that:
8. A B Team cannot, under any circumstances, be promoted to Super League 1 even if in the same year the main team of the same PAE happens to be relegated from Super League 1 to Super League 2. In the second case B ‘ group is dissolved as above. The B Team will not participate in the Super League 2 Playoffs.
9. The Second Teams of the PAE of SL1 that will participate in the league of SL2 for the two seasons, the current 2021-2022 and the next 2022-2023, will not be relegated to a lower division regardless of the places they occupy in the table of league standings. In the event that the A’ team is relegated from SL1 then the B’ Team will be disbanded.
From the 2023-2024 season when the B teams will be able to be relegated if they occupy the relevant positions in the SUPER LEAGUE 2 league standings, they will normally participate in the play outs (relegation).
Based on the above, it irrefutably follows that after the end of the regular duration of the league for the 2023-2024 season, it is not legal for the PAE 2nd Teams of Super League 1 to participate in the Play offs of SL2, as the subject of provided for in the Regulation of Groups B of the PAE, which, by the way, has been accepted by the relevant announcement of the championship.
The justifying basis and interpretation of the content of the regulation of the B’ groups of the SL1 PAE, regarding their non-participation in the SL2 Playoffs, which is clearly stated, does not need any clarification, is obviously related to ensuring the integrity and non- altering the competitive results of the teams that will participate in them, as in any other case the participation of the 2nd Teams of the PAEs, would cause shocks and disturbance of the real and true fighting power and action of the PAEs of SL2 that participate in them.
Following the above, PAE AEL reserves all its legal rights against anyone who dares to tamper with the Super League 2 championship.”
